Acer Revo won't be the first and last Ion, and at Computex
you should see more of these systems with a different varieties and features. We expect to see some netbooks based on Ion
and some upcoming Ion nettops will use the dual-core Atom 330, which makes a big
difference.
This will probably make an impact on the price, as some of
them won’t really be cheap. Acer wants around €300 for a single core, DVD /
BluRay-less device in the German market, but in some other emerging markets Acer
sells the same unit for less.
The better spec'd Ion based nettops and netbooks ought
to be more expensive and this will once again dangerously get close to the
price of decent notebooks, and this is exactly the point at which netbooks stop making sense, especially considering CULV notebooks are starting to appear on the market.
