Despite HP showing profits that rose 28%, the company has announced that it will be letting about 9,000 workers in its commercial data centers go as they move to automate them. HP has not fully defined what it means by automating its commercial data centers, nor did the company define which data centers would be affected.

HP expects the move to take a $1 billion dollar charge through 2013, but the increase in productivity is claimed to save the company between $500 million to $700 million. The company expects that it will hire about 6,000 new workers around the world to replace those that were laid off.
