Acer founder Stan Shih apparently doesn't think much of his US
competition, as he believes all US computer makers could go the way of
the Dodo over the next two decades.
It has nothing to do with global warming, as eco-mentalists would have
us believe. Shih thinks American companies just don't get the market
anymore.
“The trend for low-priced computers will last for the coming years, but US computer makers just don’t know how to put such products on
the market,”
said Shih. “US computer brands may disappear over the next
20 years, just like what happened to US television brands.”
Putting cheap products on the market is not something Apple does. Well,
it does, but it ends up pricing them twice as much as the competition.
However, the likes of Dell and HP still know how to make a cheap
computer, so we're really not sure we can agree with Shih. Hopefully we
will be around in 20 years to say we got it right.
