Mobile maker of the Blackberry, RIM has decided to jack
Big Blue's Lotus software under the bonnet of its Crackberry product.
RIM said it was launching today the new BlackBerry Client
for IBM Lotus Quickr, which provides secure mobile access to IBM's
document-based collaboration software from BlackBerry smartphones. RIM is also
releasing a new version of the BlackBerry Client for IBM Lotus Connections for
enterprise social networking.
This software, along with the BlackBerry Client
for IBM Lotus Sametime for unified communications and collaboration, claims to
give the world secure, deeply integrated and intuitive “mobile experiences”. We
are not sure what these are like, but they sound jolly fun, but we always find
the Lotus position difficult to get into. RIM has stuffed mobile Lotus Domino email on the
BlackBerry platform, but this is more of a business product.
David Yach, CTO for Software at Research In Motion said
that Lotus makes it very easy for mobile workers to tap into their enterprise
knowledge-bases and stay connected with colleagues. But with companies it is just as important that IT
departments can align with corporate policies and efficiently deliver these
capabilities in a protected and manageable environment.
