Claims it is the world's smallest GSMA-compliant eSIM

Infineon Technologies has claimed to have created the world's smallest GSMA-compliant eSIM solution.

Dubbed the Optiga Connect Consumer OC1230, Infineon claims the eSim will “revolutionise the functionality and convenience of a range of consumer devices.”

Infineon said the new eSIM consumes half the energy of existing models, significantly extending battery life without compromising performance.

“ Infineon's latest offering thrives on reducing the need for physical SIM card changes. This remote management capability enables users to switch between different service providers, offering unprecedented flexibility easily. This heralds a new era of design possibilities, especially in the realm of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, “ spokesperson said.

While it targets consumer devices such as smartphones, tablets, and notebooks, the OPTIGA Connect Consumer OC1230 should end up under the bonnet of smaller gadgets like smartwatches, 5G routers, and POS payment terminals.

The gear has Arm v8 architecture and Integrity Guard 32 technology inside.

The company said that the eSIM's support for Remote SIM provisioning (RSP) and multiple enabled profiles (MEP), compliant with GSMA SGP.22 v3, enhances user experience by simultaneously allowing the download to and remote activation of several mobile network operator profiles.

The OC1230's ultra-small chip-scale packaging, 1.8 x 1.6 x 0.4 mm, significantly minimises PCB space requirements. Infineon claims that this small footprint doesn't come at the expense of capacity, offering a generous 1 MB memory to house multiple operator profiles and additional user data.
