Dell Pro Max 18 rumoured to have RTX 5000 class GPU

Dell’s forthcoming Pro Max 18 Plus is anticipated to set new benchmarks in laptop performance, powered by Intel’s upcoming Core Ultra 200HX “Arrow Lake-HX” CPUs.

Rumoured details suggest this device could either replace Dell’s popular Precision range or introduce an entirely new lineup aimed at professional users requiring high-performance capabilities.

Expected to debut at CES 2025, the Pro Max series will feature two models: an 18-inch flagship and a smaller 16-inch variant. Both are said to offer cutting-edge specifications. According to leaks on Weibo, including purported Dell marketing slides, these laptops will feature Nvidia’s Ada-based RTX 5000-class workstation GPUs, although the exact GPU models remain unspecified.

The Pro Max 18 Plus is expected to deliver up to 200 watts of combined CPU/GPU power, with the 16-inch version offering 170 watts. While ultra-high-end gaming machines have surpassed these figures, “this would be the first laptop confirmed to offer 200W for a next-gen Intel/Nvidia combo,” according to VideoCardz.

Both models will reportedly support up to 256GB of Dell’s proprietary CAMM2 memory and significant storage capacities. The 18-inch model is said to accommodate up to 16TB of storage via four M.2 2280 SSD slots, while the 16-inch version supports up to 12TB with three slots. Heat dissipation will be managed by a groundbreaking triple-fan cooling system, an industry first for such high-power configurations.

Other premium features include a magnesium alloy chassis for reduced weight, an 8MP camera, and an OLED display option. Connectivity options are expected to include Thunderbolt 5 (80/120Gbps), WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and optional 5G WWAN. Dell is also prioritising serviceability, with a quick-access bottom cover for easy replacement of components like batteries, memory, and storage.

The Pro Max series may mark a significant shift in Dell’s workstation offerings, either redefining the Precision range or establishing a new standard in professional-grade laptops. Pricing details are expected at CES on January 7, 2025, with a mid-2025 release anticipated.
