It’s been a while since we’ve seen any Solid State Disks sporting the aging IDE interface. Even so, there is still support for the standard regardless of wherever emerging flash memory technologies decide to take the good old storage devices we have all become familiar with.
Japanese manufacturer Green House recently launched two new lines of portable and internal SSDs at 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors respectively. The models range between 16GB and 128GB and are available in SLC and MLC architectures.
The 1.8-inch SLC models are capable of read/write speeds of 65/55MBps, while the MLC variants are capable of 60/35MBps. The 2.8-inch SLC models can handle read/write speeds of 70/60MBps, while the MLC variants can handle around 60/40MBps. Overall, these are some respectable numbers coming from the aging Parallel ATA standard.
Pricing information has not been made available yet, but they are expected to start shipping in Japan sometime this month.
