Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of the firm and the daughter of Huawei's founder, is currently under house arrest in Canada after being arrested two years ago when she lobbed down in Vancouver, en route to South America, with the USA seeking her extradition on alleged ill-doing with Iran.

The USA claims that Meng fraudulently misled Hong Kong bank HSBC by using a shell subsidiary called Skycom to sell kit to Iran, contravening US sanctions.

Alykhan Velshi, VP of Huawei corporate affairs in Canada, was speaking ahead of a court case in Hong Kong tomorrow which will attempt to force HSBC to disclose documents in Huawei's long-running fight against her extradition.

The case has a Dickensian Bleak House, Jarndyce vs Jarndyce, feel about it.  Like that case, this one will run and run.

Velshi claimed today that former president Donald Trump was behind Meng's arrest and had plugged in his own creatures in the Justice Department to engineer the move as part of his instigation of a China-USA trade war.

President Joe Biden hasn't yet made clear his administration's view on the trade war.

Velshi also said that in the comings and goings in courts in Canada, Huawei had scored some wins and some defeats. The Canadian case is expected to be settled in the third or fourth quarter of this year, he said. But if the extradition is approved, he expects Huawei to lodge an appeal.
