Dropbox drops global workforce

by on14 January 2021

More than a decimation

Dropbox is cutting its global workforce by about 11 percent, the company said in an 8K filing.

This means that affects 315 people, who will be notified by the end of the business day and will be clearing out their desks and exiting the building.

One of those who will not be doing so is Dropbox CEO Drew Houston, who claims that the steps being taken were “painful, but necessary”.

Dropbox committed to preserve job security through 2020, but Houston said that looking ahead to this year "it's clear that we need to make changes in order to create a healthy and thriving business for the future".

The company said the job cuts will help it focus on its top priorities for the year, which “include evolving the core Dropbox experience, investing in new products and driving operational excellence” what ever that means. If only the 315 had driven a bit more operational excellence they might not have been fired.
