When he is not playing for Irish drone band U2, the Edge is apparently a buzz phrase in the world's IT community as a method of optimising cloud computing systems by placing smaller data centres close to the internet of things (IoT) devices to improve data processing speed.
HPE Korea CEO Ham Ki-ho said edge computing will be the next big thing in the next 10 years in the IT world.
"The IT market has seen a significant change on a 10-year cycle and for the next 10 years edge computing will bring a huge change to the market", Ham said during a press conference in Seoul, Wednesday.
HPE Korea held the conference to share issues announced at HPE Discover 2018 conference in Las Vegas on June 20. There, HPE CEO Antonio Neri predicted edge computing will be "the next evolution in enterprise technology".
Ham said the world as a whole is likely to increase the amount of data it produces.
"The amount of data the world produces will increase two times the current number by 2020 and 10 times by 2025. And among the data, 75 percent will be generated in edge computing", Ham said.
HPE will make a strong push into the edge computing business, Ham said HPE will invest $4 billion in the edge computing sector.
