The new MTS800 M.2 1TB TS1TMTS800 features Error Correction Code (E.C.C.), Wear Leveling, Intelligent Block Management, and Intel Smart Response Technology (IRST), allowing the SSD to be used as cache memory between system memory and a regular hard disk drive.
Transcend MTS800 1TB M.2 SATA III SSD (TS1TMTS800)
The MTS M.2 series was originally released in June 2014 under three models – the MTS400 (M.2 Type 2242), MTS600 (M.2 Type 2260), and MTS800 (M.2 Type 2280). Today, Transcend has announced the availability of a 1TB option for the M.2 Type 2280 line, the MTS800.
The drive is based on the company’s TS6500 SATA III 6Gbps controller and features DDR3 DRAM cache and MLC NAND flash memory. For the 1TB M.2 model, we are looking at speeds of 560MB/s sequential reads, 460MB/s sequential writes, 75,000 IOPS for 4K random reads and 75,000 IOPS for 4K random writes. The drive also supports DevSleep mode, which allows devices to completely shut down the SATA interface to conserve battery life. Other features include S.M.A.R.T., TRIM support, and Native Command Queuing (NCQ).
Intel’s Smart Response Technology monitors programs and files in the background and caches them onto the SSD. As a result, application launch speeds and overall system responsiveness are dramatically improved over conventional hard disk drives.
Transcend claims its MTS800 M.2 drives only support the SATA III interface for now, so this is a drawback for anyone looking to use a PCI-E card adapter for installation.
So far, NCIX is the only retailer to have the Transcend MTS800 M.2 1TB (TS1TMTS800) on backorder for $703.50 CAD ($519.69 USD), with an unlisted release date.
