The Register guys stumbled upon a 1960 NASA photo of the Mercury Seven. A few days ago NASA website's picture of the day featured the astronauts on survival training in Nevada.

Back in 1960 these guys were training to become the first people in space. Today, looking like this, I doubt they could get a seat on an airplane.

Anyway, the guy with the grin in the middle is not the Iranian PM, it's the first American in space, Al "Jose Jimenez" Shepard.

Sadly, Wally Schirra, second from the right in the photo, passed away just a few weeks ago.
