The machine will be introduced next Friday at IFA trade show in Berlin and the new Minix Z series has quite a few surprises. It is a completely fanless design based on Quad Core Intel Pentium N3700 processor previously known as Braswell. The CPU runs between 1.6GHz and 2.4GHz and it is manufactured in 14nm lithography. The Pentium N3700 comes with 2MB cache and it has a 6W TDP and 4W Scenario Design Power which means that is can run without a fan.
Demo machine is up and running and we saw the score running a 64-bit version of Windows 10 and 8GB or RAM. The company tested the CrystalDIskMark 5. 0-2 and in Seq Q32T1 the 256GB hard drive scores 484.9 MB Read and 182 MB Write. This is not too shabby for the mini PC small form factor machine and we are happy to see the massive increase from 32GB with the last generation to 256GB with the new one. We are sure that it will be able to run any 4K content just fine.
Minix will launch with two different SKUs: one with Intel Pentium Processor N3700 at maximum 2.40 GHz and a slower version with lntel Braswell Celeron Processor N3150 clocked at maximum 2.08 GHz.
The small chassis is made of a metal alloy and looks rather appealing. The machine comes with two WiFi antennas and Kensington lock at the back and three USB slots and power button at the front. All three USBs are of the fast 3.0 variety. The right hand side comes with a 3.5 mm stereo headphone / mic connector, mini DisplayPort, mini HDMI, optical SPFID, LAN and power slot.
The official launch and sales are expected in Q4 2015 but we are not aware of the price.
