Part of the problem was that if Vole put out a patch that clashed with someone's drivers, the update would be a mess.
Like most things Volish, Microsoft refused to listen and is now preparing to eat its words. A new update to Windows 10 is reportedly causing serious issues for a small number of users.
Issued last week, the update designated KB3081424 can hit a snag during installation that causes Windows to abandon it and reboot. Since updates are automatic and mandatory
Windows will try to install the update again later, forcing another reboot and locking the user in a endless loop.
The problem is caused by entries in the registry that may be left over from previously installed versions of Windows.
Windows 10 contains a tool for removing unwanted updates, but as KB3081424 is a security patch the tool does not seem to allow users to block it.
Microsoft has not issued an official statement so far.
