It is not clear if this price cut permanent, or if this is just a temporary, promotional price cut. Microsoft was finding new pressure from competition from a newly invigorated Sony Playstation. However the Xbox One has made unprecedented sales and surpassed the sales rate of its predecessor, the Xbox 360.
It is possible that a cheaper Xbox One could also sweep up those who are dissatisfied with the new Nintendo set-up.
