The adapter uses USB style connector that plugs into the middle of the Xbox One controller and then allows pretty much any 3.5mm stereo headset that uses the CITA plug-in standard to be connected to the adapter which allows players to control the volume and mute from buttons on the adapter. The headset adapter is powered by the Xbox One controller and headsets plugged into the adapter take advantage of the Skype-powered audio chat codec.
While all of this is good news for those that have invested in expensive headsets that they wish to use on the Xbox One, the bad news is that Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter (the official product name) will cost $24.99 when it is released in March. While some Xbox One owners that have invested in these expensive headsets might be unhappy with the high price of the adapter, the reality is that most will likely end up buying it as it is still cheaper than replacing the expensive headset with another one.
