While the Chinese hardware maker Lenovo appears to be buying every tech company on the planet it is not interested in a possible joint venture to buy Sony's loss-making Vaio PC business. The dark satanic rumour mill manufactured a hell on earth yarn that Lenovo was trying to set up a joint deal with Sony. The rumour took off when Lenovo was not quick enough to deny it.

"We do not comment on market rumor or speculation," Angela Lee, director of global corporate communications at Lenovo, wrote in an emailed response to Reuters today. Unfortunately, Angela, sometimes you have to as the rumour did not exactly help the company’s share price which were already taking a beating from the news that Lenovo would buy Google troubled Motorola handset division for $2.9 billion.

Fortunately it looks like Sony has come to the party and denied that anything is happening. In a statement, the maker of games consoles said:

"A press report on February 1, 2014 stated that Sony Corporation is discussing with Lenovo Group the possible establishment of a joint venture for the PC business," a company spokesperson confirmed in a statement to press on Saturday. "As Sony has announced previously, Sony continues to address various options for the PC business, but the press report on a possible PC business alliance between Sony and Lenovo is inaccurate."
