So, some 150 million units later worldwide, GameStop is pulling the plug on taking in more PlayStation 2 consoles, accessories, and games. None of these will be accepted for trade any longer at GameStop stores in the US. It isn’t yet clear what the time table is to pull the plug on PS2 trades outside the US, but expect those to wind down, as well, in the months ahead.
We expect to see GameStop stores condense the space for PS2 used product before it is pulled down the road. No one really knows what kind of timetable GameStop has in mind for doing this in the US, but we don’t expect the majority of GameStop stores to be selling PS2 stuff by the end of the year at retail. We do expect much of this product to be leveraged and sold online.
