Fruit themed toy maker Apple has been slammed for forcing its lacklustre Safari 3.1 Web browsers on Windows users who do not want it. When a user loads Apple Software Update onto the system the updater would have the "install Safari" option checked by default.

The move has been blasted by John Lilly, CEO of Mozilla, who said that the software undermines the trust relationship great companies have with their customers. Lilly claims that the action borders on malware distribution practices.

It seems that Apple is using the update device as a Trojan Horse to increase the uptake of its Web browser.
