Apple dumps Wolfson
Not behind the iPhone
Apple is rumored to have dumped Wolfson Microelectronics as the supplier of Apple's next generation iPods .
While Apple will continue to use Wolfson, the company has announced that it has lost the contract with Apple for the new generation of portable media players, including the iPhone expected to be launched during the third quarter of 2008.
It seems that the contract has been lost to Cirrus Logic although there has been no announcement on this, either. Wolfson said it would still grow, as it has lots of other contracts. Wolfson presently makes chips for Apple's iPod music player.
Other customers included Canon, HP, LG, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony and TomTom.
