During the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Sony launched several new devices worthy of attention to smartphone users, with a particular focus on Android users. Aside from its new Google TV devices and 2012 smartphone lineup, we found its Smart Extras devices to be of particular interest.

One of the devices that caught our attention was the SmartWatch. It is essentially a wristwatch with a 20mm wristband, a 1.3-inch OLED display with a 128 x 128 pixel resolution, a Bluetooth wireless radio and access to a curated version of the Android Market with applications specifically catered for its miniscule display.



When activated, the device is capable of accessing calls, sending and receiving text messages, playing music, and launching applications to and from a compatible Android smartphone.

In perspective, we can view this as Google's iteration of the Apple iPod nano (when used as a wristwatch) with branding and customization done by Sony. The device seems impressive on the surface, however it is only compatible with the latest line up of Sony's Android-enabled smartphones.
