Manocha has stated that the majority of the investment funds will go toward finishing and equipping their long-anticipated Fab 8 in Malta, Saratoga County, New York. Ultimately, we can expect Fab 8 production to be fully ramped up by the end of 2012.
The new Fab 8 campus from Globalfoundries is location about 100 miles north of the IBM campus in East Fishkill, New York and stands as one of the most techologically advanced wafer labs in the world. When fully ramped, the total clean-room space will be approximately 300,000 square feet and will be capable of a total output of approximately 60,000 wafers per month. Globalfoundries will dedicate Fab 8 as a cutting-edge manufacturing plant for 32nm, 28nm and below.
“The transformation wasn’t going too fast enough until I took over as CEO,” he said. “We’ve shown a great improvement.” In addition to plant construction on Fab 8, Globalfoundries also plans to add production in Abu Dhabi, the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates. Ultimately, we expect both moves will attract more customers to the fabrication giant over the course of the next two years.
