Intel will use the Texas Instruments WL1283 Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / GPS combo package for its 32nm Medfield platform and the Broadcom 4330 / 4751 Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / GPS combo package for its Clover Trail-W platform.
Medfield, designed exclusively for the Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, is a x86-based 32nm SoC that will launch in Q2 2012. Initial reports suggest that prototype hardware will be on display at CES 2012 in Las Vegas in just a few short days from now. LG will be the first Intel partner to launch an Android 4.0 smartphone based on the Intel Medfield SoC, and initial performance benchmarks of the chip have been published early, courtesy of our friends at VR-Zone.
Clover Trail-W, designed exclusively for the upcoming Windows 8 operating system, will be equipped with a variety of new wireless mobile technologies – Intel Wireless Display (WiDi), Compute Continuum, PC Sync, One Tap NFC, Advanced Imagine and HW Enhanced Security.
