While we now know that the Wii U will be able to play Wii titles and will be leaving behind the Game Cube offerings, one thing that we know now is that the Wii U will not be taking advantage of its new HD resolution to upscale your old Wii titles to 1080p.

While some have suggested that the use of upscaling of Wii titles would definitely make them look better, it is something that isn’t in the cards for the Wii U at this point. While we agree that the HD 1080p resolutions and the additional texture filtering could breathe new life into Wii titles, it isn’t something that Nintendo is interested in at this point.
