Acer has announced the formation of a new tablet division, amidst a management reshuffle which has seen the departure of CEO Gianfranco Lanci.
The company appointed Jim Wong as its new president and he is expected to take over some of Lanci’s competences. Wong will also head the newly established division, which will encompass Acer’s tablet and smartphone operations.
In addition, Acer lowered its Q2 shipment forecast. The company expects shipments to decline by about 10 percent sequentially. This is the second forecast revision within the last month, as Acer had earlier predicting that shipments will stay flat.
Analysts believe Acer grossly underestimated Lanci’s influence in the channel. Gartner believes his departure prompted many European distributors to switch to Asustek products instead.
