Unless telecom companies do more to reduce the price of SMS texting, the E.C. is going to introduce legislation to force them to do so.

E.U. Telecoms Commissioner, Viviane Reding, said she was concerned about the high level and wide range of prices for text messages across the community. She said that she will watch developments very closely and respond appropriately by the end of 2008.

This is similar to the veiled threat she gave the phone companies before she forced them to reduce global roaming charges.
