Chinese owned Lenovo Group is to cut 1,400 positions worldwide, including 20 percent of the workforce at its global headquarters in Research Triangle Park in the US.

According to the eeTimes, the cuts amount to five percent of Lenovo employees worldwide.

The move is part of an efficiency drive in the company which wants to save a $100 million in the 2007-08 fiscal year.

The 350 job cuts at  Research Triangle Park are amoung product development, sales and marketing, global supply chain and software testing.

Meanwhile Lenovo is creating 750 positions in emerging markets, including Slovakia, Brazil, India and China.
