Alienware has released a 64GB solid-state storage for its Area-51 ALX and Aurora ALX desktops.
Marc Diana, product marketing manager at Miami-based Alienware said the company plans to add solid-state functionality to its other desktop offerings by mid-2008.
Diana admitted that solid-state technology was too expensive and immature for the mainstream market. However he discounted the use of
hybrid flash memory/disk drives as a Band-Aid approach to solid state.
