Raja Koduri, Intel's VP and chief architect, is leaving Intel by the end of March, as confirmed by Intel's CEO, Pat Gelsigner.

Executive Vice President of Intel's  AXG business unit, Raja Koduri, will return to his previous role as an Intel Chief Architect after the unit has been divided in a surprise shakeup.

Analysis: CTO mindset

There was a lot of discussion about Intel’s CEO's recent presentation at the Credit Suisse technology conference. Bob Swan commented that he is willing to give up the 90 percent mark share mindset. He would instead get 30 percent of all silicon market valued at $288 TAM.

Take away: Strong leaders can motivate

Jim Keller, Murthy and Raja Koduri are very prominent names in the chip industry but it is very important to underline that Intel has many thousands of employees  and most of them being quite good in what they are doing. It won’t be Keller that will fix Intel’s CPU and its overall SoC design and Raja who is slated to fix the whole architecture, software stack and GPU, or Murthy that will fix the fabs and IoT / servers.

From Teraflops to Petaflops

Intel organized an architecture day on the late Robert Noyce’s estate, a founder of Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel, a $22 million estate where Intel used to have its board meetings. At this symbolic landmark, Intel’s Raja Koduri, Jim Keller, Murthy as well as dozen other engineers gave the press an overview in 10nm, future GPUs, FPGAs and server products.

Rayfield runs the RTG, David Wang engineering

Before anyone jumps the gun claiming that Mike Rayfield, the newly promoted Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) is ex Micron, we wanted to point out that he used to run Tegra for Nvidia before. The man who will replace Raja Koduri’s engineering talents comes from ATI and Synaptics. David Wang is now Senior Vice President of Engineering at RTG.

Without pointing any fingers and naming any names, Fudzilla had confirmation that Raja Koduri's successor to run the graphics side of the business will come from outside of AMD.

Intel dropped the nuclear news on Wednesday that Raja Koduri will become its chief architect, snf senior vice president of the newly formed Core and Visual Computing Group, and general manager of a new initiative to drive "edge" computing solutions.

Leaked memo confirms it

Although most of the AMD team believed that Raja Koduri would be coming back to AMD RTG after his sabbatical, it appears that he is now gone for good.
