Ryzen 7 and now Ryzen 5 have launched and they are putting enormous pressure on Intel in the top-level market segment. After a whole decade, price/performance is definitely on AMD's side and even the upcoming Naples 32 core server part will put enormous pressure on  Intel’s cash cow in the server market.

AMD's CEO Lisa Su took to the stage to formally introduce the AMD Ryzen 7 series of CPUs. One of the key points made in the introduction was a previous revisit of the idea that high performance computing defines the user experience. AMD did a great job pricing the parts making them really aggressive and affordable and managed to increase the IPC by at much as 52 percent. 

Desktop, server then notebook

Summit Ridge, Ryzen is on track for Q1 2017, Naples, a server part is on track for Q2 2017 while AMD’s CEO confirmed that Raven Ridge Zen APU is on track to launch in the second half of 2017.

Eight core/16-thread SKU with 3.4GHz base clock

At its scheduled New Horizon event, AMD has now officially confirmed its branding for the  Zen CPU architecture, now to be known as the Ryzen. As we said before, the only SKU announced and detailed so far is the 8-core/16-thread CPU.

AMD's CEO was quite direct when she was asked about the VR strategy and VR market. Lisa said that this is a strategic area.
