You probably have heard that AMD has high hopes for its Puma notebook platform and that it's working with a lot of partners and so far has over 100 design wins. AMD has gone on record with this information a few times by now.

There is more than meets the eye here. Some partners that have barely worked with AMD in the past are all being very strong on Puma, simply due to the fact that they can profit from it.

Puma, on the other hand, puts Nvidia in a difficult position, as it uses AMD’s CPU and chipset. Nforce won’t be a part of the chipset, and it is not even an option.

Nvidia can fit in with its GPUs, but currently Nvidia is on 65nm, while ATI has completely switched to 55nm; but in the notebook market this plays a big role, as it runs cooler and probably preserves battery life.

Puma still has an Athlon – Turion-like CPU, but at least this time the CPU has been developed exclusively for the notebook market.
