Swiftly spinning

Acer has been showing off its new Chromebook, Swift notebooks and Spin convertible laptops ahead of the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin.

In the week leading up to the IFA 2016 tradeshow in Berlin several brand vendors are preparing to launch what they think are next-generation wearable devices including offerings from Acer, Asustek and Samsung.

 Doldrums time

A research note from IDC said that PC shipments in the EMEA region accounted for 16.1 million units in the second quarter of this year.

Weakening European demand

Hardware maker Acer is worried that Britain's move to leave the EU will mean that demand for the entire region will slump.

A bit more expensive than predicted

The Jibo robot will be in the shops in October which is later and about $200 more than expected.

Undercutting the market

Acer's new ultra-thin Aspire S 13 raised a few eyebrows by charging $699 for what many other manufacturers would charge more than $1000. Now it is planning two more which will appear in September.

Will work with others

Acer's boss Jason Chen says his company will not make its own VR devices and will focus on getting its gaming products to work with the existing VR platforms.

Acer has unveiled a new and rather expensive member of its Predator gaming lineup, the Predator Z850 gaming projector with a US $5000 price tag.

Acer has divided its businesses into two group – one for IT hardware products and the other for cloud services, smart devices and e-businesses.
