A lot of people were surprised to learn that Jim Keller decided to leave Intel for personal reasons. We were less surprised than the rest of his colleagues, just based on Jim’s track record as we believe that Keller went and did what he was hired to do, and left. 

Zen 4 to go to the next node

Digitimes, VideoCardz, and RetiredEngineer (twitter) started an intriguing rumor that Ryzen 4000 might end up at 5nm+. Asking around at a reliable place, we have to disappoint some of you as this won't be the case. The Ryzen 4000 series based on Zen 3 core is still at 7nm.

Hades Follow up / Panther Canyon

Hades Canyon was the Intel’s first and last attempt to use AMD Radeon graphics connected to its eight-generation Core processor, all in a 100W TDP small form factor package. Now Intel plans a successor to that machine in the later part of 2020.

High-performance PC SoCs too

Qualcomm introduced Prime core clocked rest from the cluster with Snapdragon 865, and Huawei had two higher clock performance cores in Kirin 990. With that in mind, ARM has introduced the Cortex-X custom program. The result is up to 30 percent peak performance compared to previous generation Cortex A77 cores.

20 percent faster 5nm optimized

The next generation of phones mostly expected in early 2021, will come powered by Cortex A78 new core. The new Cortex A78 will improve performance by up to 20 percent in the same power envelope.

Ryzen 3 or what AMD might end up calling the Ryzen 4000 desktop series was supposed to launch at Computex 2020. Since Computex is postponed from late May to late September, it is unlikely that AMD will wait until then to reveal a new CPU.

Top-notch 20 nm Space-Grade FPGA

Computing and calculation are a tough job on the ground, not to mention in space, satellites, and Mars Rovers where they face radiation, limited space, and power constraints. Xilinx has just announced a top of the line 20 nm Space-Grade Radiation Tolerant (RT) Kintex UltraScale XQRKU060FPGA that it claims will offer 10X compute performance and reduce development time to launch from five to six to two to three years.

After weeks of speculation, TSMC has officially confirmed that Taiwan based TSMC announced its intention to build and operate an advanced semiconductor fab in Arizona, United States.
