On April 8th, Nvidia gave its partners the green light to start selling overclocked Geforce 9800 GTX cards, and in the meantime we got our hands on XFX's Black Edition. The new XFX card, branded 9800 GTX Black Edition, is available as a limited edition, and it dares to take the speed crown from the well known XFX XXX edition.

It sports a super-fast G92 GPU that works on 760MHz with memory clock of 1140MHz (effective 2280MHz), while the Shaders run at 1900MHz . The Black Edition 9800 GTX uses reference cooling, but it is a good candidate for further overclocking, just as we saw earlier with the reference clocked XFX 9800 GTX.






Today we have some results so you can see what this card is capable of. Clock-wise, it’s not the fastest 9800 GTX on the market; as we saw some cards running at 770MHz. Actually, these 10MHz do not play a big role in gaming performance. The bundled Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft is there to let you play hard with XFX's new range of cards.



In 3Dmark the card is able to score 12753, a few hundred faster than the lower clocked competitors and in Company of Heroes can beat the reference 9800 GTX by 10 FPS, or by some 12 percent.
