CES 2009: 45nm + chipset and no extra cores

We've learned
that the next step in Atom development, especially when it comes to netbooks, is still single-core, but with more integration.

The IGP graphics part and the rest of the chipset will get together with Atom, and we heavily suspect an MCM, Multi chip module approach. The next generation Atom is still 45nm and we believe that we might be talking about an identical chip with a better chipset and more integration.

Intel can hardly make Atom better than it is and the chip works great for a 2W CPU, it just needs more integration and a better chipset. Dual-core Atom remains desktop only CPU, while single-core continues to keeps the netbook story alive.

We are sure that this new chip comes after Q3 2009 but we won’t know more than that as Q1 2010 also comes after Q3 2009.
