Games Convention 08: Intel confirms

Nvidia's SLI will get on X58 and Intel has confirmed that we are talking about an additional hardware chip and not the software solution.

As we understand, Intel could make this work in software but Nvidia didn't let them do it. Nvidia wanted to sell the chip to Intel partners.

It is not clear at this time if the reference board will also support SLI, but there is a strong indication that it will, but we are sure that tier one partners will support SLI on their boards.

Intel wants to sell Nehalem, Core i7 CPU as a high-end product and some users on the top of that iceberg want SLI and therefore they will get it. At the same time, we didn't get the feeling that Intel is so happy about the hardware chip that they need to put on the board, they would rather make the driver that would make it work.
