Said to be called Shred by the Birdman

It seems that the leaks surrounding upcoming skateboarding titles continue with Tony Hawk himself letting the cat out of the bag that the next installment will be called “Tony Hawk: Shred,” according to a post by the Birdman on his Twitter feed.

Activision as well as Hawk himself has been pretty quiet after the perceived failure of the last release called Tony Hawk: Ride. Ride, of course, featured the skateboard controller that received the majority of the negative press. Besides Hawk himself claiming that the game was good and just misunderstood by the media, Activision has said that they were not giving up on the franchise just yet.

With the focus on the upcoming release of Skate 3 and the recently dropped Skate 3 demo, it seems that now would be a good time to remind consumers that a new Tony Hawk title is in the works. Then again, Hawk might be following the lead of Shaun White, who also let it be known that Ubisoft was working on a Shaun White skateboarding title.

While you have to wonder about the timing of the revelations being so close to the release of Skate 3, which is the current king of the skateboarding titles, it seems it would be good strategy to get the word out that there will be challengers to the crown when these new titles release. The release date for the Shaun White skateboarding title is only known as sometime this fall; no release information was leaked by Hawk on when we might expect Shred to arrive, but our sources think a fall release is also likely.
