Microsoft says that it is working on a system that will allow Windows to run virtually on Linux, however it claims that the no one wants such a product on the desktop.
According to eWeek Sam Ramji, the director of Microsoft's open-source software lab said that customers want to be able to mix and match their data centre applications. However, Microsoft has not seen significant demand for Linux applications on the desktop or for desktop virtualization on top of Linux.
He said that he does get requests from developers in the Linux community, the feedback Microsoft is getting from customers and its Interoperability Executive Customer Council with regard to the desktop is that they only want .Net and Java interoperability.
