After the company's acquisition of Indilinx Co. Ltd. in March 2011, many of its engineers have been hard at work on Everest 2, an updated controller (IDX400M00-BC vs. IDX300M00-BC) with a new firmware architecture designed to address shortcomings in small-block performance and write amplification reduction that were apparent on previous controller designs.
All of OCZ's new Vertex 4 SSDs use the SATA III 6Gbps interface and are based on the Indilinx Everest 2 controller. The new architecture design provides up to 550MB/s sequential read speed, up to 500MB/s sequential write speed and 90 000 random write IOPS. Nevertheless, the new controller is fully compatible with 20nm-class synchronous MLC NAND flash memory and supports up to 2TB capacities.
The folks over at Computerbase.de have already visited OCZ's booth at CeBIT 2012 and have come away with some preliminary performance benchmarks on what to expect from these SSDs. More benchmarks can be found here.
