AMD has announced revealed its Ryzen 7040HS series, which has been confirmed to launch in April, but the low-power Ryzen 7040U lineup has been rumored for some time, and it appears to be quite an interesting lineup, packing quite a punch in its 15-28W TDP range. In case you missed them, these are 4nm APUs, feature up to 8-core/16-thread Zen 4 CPU configuration, and come with RDNA 3 iGPU with up to 12 CUs.

At least two SKUs have now been spotted in the Ryzen 7040U series, the Ryzen 7 7840U and the Ryzen 5 7640U, both coming to thin and light laptops.

As reported by Videocardz.com, in these first benchmarks, the 28W Ryzen 7 7840U did Cinebench R23 multi-threaded benchmark with 14285 points, making it faster than the Ryzen 9 6900HX, and just a bit below the Intel Core i7-12800H, which is a 45W part. The same leak says it does 3000 points in 3DMark TimeSpy and 8000 points in 3DMark Firestrike benchmarks, which is an impressive score for 12CUs RDNA 3 part.

Unfortunately, AMD is pretty silent about the Ryzen 7040U series, but hopefully, we will hear more about them soon after the Ryzen 7040HS series launches next month.
