A question of learning best techniques to exploit it

Director of development for Xbox, Boyd Multerer says that he “fully expects” more developers to get their titles running at 1080p resolutions on the Xbox One as the studios become more comfortable with the design of the GPU used in the Xbox One and the ESRAM that accompanies it.

The problem lies in the fact that the processing units used in the Xbox One console “are really complicated beats this time around.” “The hardware is basically baked, and what comes next is people discovering better software techniques to take advantage of it, especially in the ordering of the data so it flows through all the caches correctly, and I think there’s a lot of opportunity there,” he said.

While Multerer admits that it will take time for engines to be optimized and it is a fair question to ask when we are going to see studios take better advantage of the hardware, it is going to take time. Really that is what we have been saying all along.
