Hackers managed to access production networks at a German steel maker, allowing them to tamper with the controls of a blast furnace. According to a German government report, published by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), it was a rare case where a digital attack actually caused physical damage.

Microsoft is doing rather well from corporate spending on the cloud, according to a new survey. Beancounters at Cowen & Co have added up the numbers and divided by their shoe size and reached the conclusion that cloud computing initiatives top the list of corporate IT spending priorities in the fourth quarter and Microsoft is the biggest beneficiary from it.
