Gigabyte's X470 motherboard spotted on CES floor

by on09 January 2018

Better VRM, two M.2 slots and more

Although it is scheduled to launch in April, together with the second generation Ryzen desktop CPUs,  AMD's upcoming X470 chipset motherboard has already been seen at the CES 2018 show in Las Vegas.

Coming from Gigabyte and spotted by Gamers Nexus, the X470 Gaming 7 WiFi packs a lot of gaming-oriented features but also some improvements compared to the previous X370 chipset. According to the source, the motherboard will support memory speeds of up to 4,000MHz, which will be a significant improvement.

The motherboard uses a 10-phase VRM which draws power from 8+4-pin power connectors, which states that this is an overclocking oriented motherboard. The motherboard also uses large heatsinks, which should keep the VRM temps at bay.

It also has two M.2 slots, which suggests that the X470 chipset could feature two full-speed M.2 slots, something that was not present on X370 chipset motherboards.

Of course, since this is a high-end motherboard with the focus on gaming and overclocking, it features RGB lights, reinforced PCIe, and memory slots, onboard switches and more.

Other motherboard makers are likely to have their designs ready as well in time for an April launch and it will be interesting to see how these will compare to current X370 motherboards.
