Asus launches blinged out Bay Trail-D board

by on04 March 2014

Celeron J1800 gets massive heatsink

Asus has a neat little mITX board for Bond villains and bling loving rappers. The J1800I-C is a passive Bay Trail-D board with a huge heatsink which looks like overkill.

Why? Because the gold heatsink sits atop a Celeron J1800, which is a dual-core Bay Trail-D part with a TDP of just 10W. It is clocked at 2.4GHz, but it can hit 2.85GHz on Turbo. Most vendors get by with a much smaller heatsink - cooling Bay Trail-D parts without a fan isn't that hard.

The board has two DDR3L SO-DIMM slots, a PCIe x1 slot and a mini PCI express x1 slot. Asus did not go for a third party controller, so the board features two SATA 3Gbps ports. It also has a single USB 3.0 port, four USB 2.0 ports and VGA and HDMI video outputs. Not bad, but not too impressive either.

The board is priced at $74.99, making it somewhat pricier than comparable solutions from other vendors.
