Adobe goes AI with Firefly

by on21 March 2023

A new family of creative generative AI suite

AI is pushing hard and Adobe is obviously not going to be left behind, and today, it has unveiled Firefly, a new family of creative generative AI tools focused on the generation of images and text effects.

Being part of new Adobe Adobe Sensei generative AI services across Adobe's clouds, which include features like Neural Filters in Photoshop, Content Aware Fill in After Effects, Attribution AI in Adobe Experience Platform, and Liquid Mode in Acrobat, Firefly is promising to give creators new "superpowers". According to Adobe, everyone who creates content, regardless of their experience and skill, will be able to create content with ease, whether those are images, audio, vectors, videos, and 3D, or even tools like brushes, color gradients and video transformations.

Adobe Firefly will launch as a beta that allows creators to experience those high-quality image generation and amazing text effects.

In order to keep with the theme, Firefly aims to generate content safe for commercial use, so there will be several models, depending on users' skillsets and technical backgrounds. The first model is trained on Adobe Stock images, openly licensed and public domain content, while future Firefly models will also leverage a variety of assets, technology, and training data from Adobe and others. Adobe was keen to note it will continue to prioritize countering potential harmful bias.

"Generative AI is the next evolution of AI-driven creativity and productivity, transforming the conversation between creator and computer into something more natural, intuitive and powerful," said David Wadhwani, president, Digital Media Business, Adobe. "With Firefly, Adobe will bring generative AI-powered 'creative ingredients' directly into customers' workflows, increasing productivity and creative expression for all creators from high-end creative professionals to the long tail of the creator economy."
