Intel 530-series SSDs coming next week

by on04 July 2013

In a bunch of sizes and form factors

Intel’s next generation 530-series SSDs are about to be launched, probably next week. The new drives are based on 20nm MLC and the same LSI Sandforce SF-2281 controller used in previous Intel SSDs.

The 530 series will eventually replace all 520 and 525 series drives. It will come in three form factors, the standard 2.5-inch 7mm, mSATA and NGFF M2. There’s also a generous choice of capacities, 80GB, 180GB, 240GB and 360GB for mSATA and NGFF M2 drives. The far bigger 2.5-inch will have a choice of 180GB, 240GB, 360GB and 480GB drives.

There is still no word on performance, but the new series should end up noticeably faster than 520/525 drives. However, we don’t expect a spectacular performance boost, as the new series uses the same SF-2281 controller.
