Crazy looking flagship router

During IFA 2015 show in Berlin, ASUS has unveiled a rather crazy looking high-end router, the RT-AC5300.

As a direct successor to the earlier released RT-AC3200, the new ASUS RT-AC5300 router is also a tri-band router with 2.4GHz and two 5GHz bands and packs no less than eight external dual-band detachable antennas.

Based on the latest Broadcom WiFi chip (BCM4709+BCM4366 for 2.4GHz and two BCM4366 chips for 5GHz band), the RT-AC5300 has a total bandwidth of 5,300Mbps, which you get when you add 1,000Mbps via 2.4GHz and 2,167Mbps for each 5GHz band. The rest of the specs include 128MB of flash and 256MB of DDR3 RAM memory, single Gigabit WAN, four Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, as well as plenty of features like 3G cellular sharing, HDD sharing via SAMBA and DLNA, FTP and print server support and ASUS' own AiProtection.

While the design could easily scare your pet, in case you are into it, ASUS has announced that the RT-AC5300 should be available by the end of the year. Unfortunately, the price has not been announced but the word around the IFA 2015 show is that it might go for around US $400.
