Motherboard stands for comfort

You would expect everything in Asustek to be dire given that it makes notebooks, smartphones, tablets and desktops and these are dropping down the blackberry.

However the outfit is rumoured to be coining it in from its motherboards and graphics cards, with the corresponding net profit for 2015 estimated$154 million.

According to Digitimes, Asustek's notebook shipments only reached 13.9 million units for the first three quarters of 2015 and are expected to drop 6 per cent to 19.1 million in 2015. Desktop shipments missed their targets too.

But Asustek is expected to see its smartphone and tablet businesses starting to contribute profits in the fourth quarter.

Asustek also performed rather stably thanks to its motherboard and graphics card businesses as well as the dividends from Pegatron Technology.

This year Asustek and Gigabyte Technology were expected to ship 19 million motherboards and despite seeing growing competition from Micro-Star International (MSI) and China-based Colorful.
