EFI comes the PC

MSI have
been working on getting EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) to work on desktop motherboards for some time now and even released a P35 motherboard supporting it. However, MSI seems keen to add EFI to more of its products and MSI just announced that some of its P45 motherboards will get EFI support.

Although MSI calls it UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) or simply Click BIOS, when it comes to its own motherboards. The advantage of EFI is that you get a graphics users interface, although MSI doesn't seem to have taken full advantage of this as yet.

Judging by the picture on MSI's Website, there will be options for various profiles that can be loaded via a single mouse click. Other features will includes network connectivity for online EFI upgrades without having to go into Windows and the possibility of adding third party applications, although we're not sure how sensible this would be in case some of them would end up damaging the system settings.

You need to be running Windows Vista 64-bit SP1 for EFI to work with your OS and as of right now, it only works with the P45D3 Platinum, but expect upgrades for the P45 Diamond and P45 Platinum toward the end of August.

You can find the press release here.
