LG Stylo with Helio P10

MediaTek has announced that it has just launched its first MediaTek powered smartphone on the Verizon wireless network. The phone is manufactured by LG, is called Stylo 2V and it is the first-ever MediaTek-powered CDMA/LTE smartphone by Verizon Wireless. This is a big win for the Taiwanese company that will open many doors for the company.

The LG Stylo 2 V uses the MediaTek Helio P10 SoC with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked to 2.0GHz that offers decent performance in the mainstream market. Bear in mind that  Verizon is the largetst network in the USA and that it heavily depends on  CDMA technology, proving that Cat 6 modem on the Helio P10 is doing a decent job.

The USA launch of MediaTek phones was planned for Q3 2016 and since we've only started Q4 2016 it means that MediaTek probably did ship these phones in the previous quarter,  but Verizon as a customer has decided to launch it in late October. This is the date that we heard back in June 2015 from MediaTek executives, and it looks like that their plans are working out.

Mohit Bhushan, MediaTek Vice President and General Manager of US Business Development said:  “MediaTek has worked diligently to prove its silicon, modem and software capabilities on the Verizon network and meet its high quality expectations.  We collaborated with LG on a best-in-class phablet device that delivers uncompromised quality, features and technology.

“The collaboration leaves no doubt that MediaTek has arrived as a key player in the U.S. smartphone market,” added Bhushan. “ LG Stylo 2 V allows us to cater to consumers’ need for an array of device choices while continuing MediaTek’s commitment to bring advanced technologies to the growing middle-class consumer.”

The LG Stylo 2 V features a large 5.7” HD display, a 1.8GHz octa-core processor, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. This means that LG has clocked the Helio P10 slower than its possible limit, but this is we assume, a customer driven decision, as we’ve tested some phones running Helio P10 at its maximum 2.0 Ghz. The phone comes with Android Marshmallow OS, 1080p HD video recording, 16GB built-in storage with expansion capability to 128GB via microSD card. It is available now in Verizon outlets.

The phone comes with  3,000mAh battery and it will sell for $240. But with a contract, it will cost $10 a month for a 24 month period.  This is a major win for MediaTek and we are sure that more phones will launch on different carriers. The Helio P20 looks very promising in the mainstream market and we can expect that it might become attractive to many carriers in 2017 phones.
